Why We Support MLA

MLA thanks and recognizes the generous support of two members who each gave $1,000 donations to support MLA in 2009.

Supporting MLA Technology Fund Recognizes Opportunities Technology Offers

Robert and I were both raised by curious parents. They never stopped learning and asking questions.  The physician, carpenter, medical technologist and homemaker each taught us that all things change, and that we should be willing to adopt new methods of doing work more efficiently and effectively. They also taught us that we should have the courage to discard those tools and methods of work when they are obsolete and redundant. Our donation for MLA technology is in recognition of our parents and the great opportunity that technology as a tool presents to us in our working lives. Support MLA: Support Library Profession, Colleagues

As a junior high school student library aide, I had dreams of joining the ranks of the kind and knowledgeable school and public librarians with whom I came in contact as a young person.  Fortunately for me, the dream came true in the years following my graduation from the Wayne State University library program in the 1970s.  Since then I've had the privilege to be employed in several college and university libraries.

Very early in my career I learned the value of a statewide library organization -- its conferences, services, educational programs and, above all, its networking opportunities. I've long admired what the Michigan Library Association offers, and over the past several years my wife and I have made a personal commitment to financially support its programs. Why? Because we believe there is great value in MLA's long-standing mission to sustain and advance our colleagues and associates across Michigan.

Drs. Richard and Jennifer Cochran

Today our veritable organization is challenged more than ever before by devastating financial conditions affecting Michigan and our nation.  If MLA is important to you as it is to me, I sincerely hope you will consider supporting the one Michigan organization that supports us.

Sincerely,

Richard M. Cochran, Ph.D.
