Support Staff Round Table

The SSRT endeavors to be a forum for the exchange of information and resources for all support staff and to affirm the vital role of support staff in all aspects of library service. Suggestions for workshops and questions about the SSRT may be sent to any board member.

New Workshop On April 18, 2008!   The Support Staff Roundtable is currently working on the Spring 2008 Workshop.  Down the Pipeline, will be held Friday, April 18, 2008, at the Detroit Public Library Main Branch, 5201 Woodward Ave., Detroit.  The workshop will run from 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

This workshop will provide library staff with a look at anticipated trends in systems and the effects such trends are having on library services and staffing needs.  Changes to organizational structures, funding, job descriptions, compensation, and training needs will be presented.  The effects of current technology trends and techno-savvy patrons will also be explored.

Registration

It is expected that this event will be as interesting as last year's Spring Workshop.  The Support Staff Roundtable Spring Workshop 2007 was a very successful event and contributed $3230 to MLA--one of the top contributing roundtables for last year! Two workshops were offered and received high ratings from the audience. Policies and Procedures:  A Balancing Act, was presented by Pamela VanDerPloeg, Assistant Director for Circulation, Collections, Facilities at Kent District Library and Karen Small, Circulation Manager at the Kent District Library Wyoming Branch.  Recognizing and Managing Threatening Workplace Situations, was presented by Dale Brown, the founder of The Threat Management Center in Detroit.  The Lansing Public Library graciously served as hosts for both of the 2007 programs.
